Hutter (GUSTAV VON WANGENHEIM), a young real estate clerk, is sent to the Carpathian mountains to Count Orlok (MAX SCHRECK) to conclude a contract for the purchase of a property. After a harrowing journey, the Count welcomes him to his castle. However, as the first night approaches, Hutter discovers the harsh truth: Count Orlok is a vampire. FRIEDRICH WILHEL MURNAU was unable to obtain the rights to film the novel BRAMA STOKER DRACULA, so he changed the names of the characters and set the story in the fictional town of WISMAR. It is also interesting to note that Murnau filmed the scenes from Orlok's castle in the Slovak Orava castle.
