Dogman
In the poor suburbs between the metropolis and the wilderness, only the law of the strongest applies. Here, Marcello (Marcello Fonte) divides his time between working in a modest dog salon and lovingly caring for his daughter (Alida Baldari Calabria). Unfortunately, his life is interfered with by the boorish Simoncino (Edoardo Pesce), a former boxer and bully who terrorizes the entire neighborhood. The petite and sensitive Marcello is drawn to him by an ambiguous and humiliating relationship. In an attempt to restore dignity to his life, he plots a desperate revenge and his actions lead to an unexpected outcome.
The film's director, Matteo Garrone, revealed of his approach to the film, "Dogman is not a film only about revenge, although revenge (perhaps it would be better to write redemption) plays an important role in it. Nor is it a variation on the theme of the eternal struggle of the weak against the strong. It is a film that confronts us with something that concerns us all: the consequences of the choices we make every day in order to survive."
At the Cannes Film Festival, the lead actor Marcello Fonte won the Best Actor award.
